About

Hi! I’m Sam, thanks for stopping by. To start off, I am in love with local food and farms. I love farmers’ markets and supporting the community.  I’m obsessed with: eggplant, local food and farmers’ markets (as previously stated, but worth mentioning again), photography, oatmeal, my ice cream maker and science fiction. I am becoming increasingly interested in nutrition and how our body processes and uses each food group. Although I am interested in the science aspect, I am mainly driven and moved by the way that food makes me feel. To quote a local magazine, Edible Hudson Valley: “We might forget, as we indulge in a mocha frappuccino or inhale a burger in the car, that food is energy and it fills more than our stomachs. It feeds our brains, our hearts and our spirits.” That quote sums up almost all of my feelings towards food and I couldn’t have put it in a better way.

Me minus food: I am perpetually nerdy and clumsy. I knock things over and snort while laughing. Video games, comic books and science fiction are a few of the things that make me a self-proclaimed & extreme nerd. I like wine and those girly drinks served with umbrellas. I constantly change my mind and have a really hard time making decisions, especially important ones. I’m a dog person but lately I find myself warming up to felines. I plan on becoming fluent in French. I’ll be that American girl who can’t pronounce the R’s correctly. Netflix and Hulu run my life outside of school and the kitchen. I’m an artist at heart and have always been crafty and creative. I love photography, sewing and other crafts.

About Sweet Remedy

Sweet Remedy is something I started out of pure boredom. I wanted something to occupy my mind after losing my job. I started to bake, very poorly.  Cupcakes were my medium and soon I became a decent baker. I delivered these cupcakes to friends and family and was shocked to receive such an overwhelming demand for them. I decided to start selling them at a local farmers’ market.  This marks the birth of SR. I did this for two amazing summers and then decided to go back to school which is currently monopolizing a lot of my time. When I graduate I plan on starting the business aspect again, mainly for fun.

I had a really good run at the market; I grew a modest customer base, learned valuable life lessons and made many great friends. I am eternally grateful I started this adventure with food. It helped me grow into who I am today and has helped me realize my passions in life: making food, eating food and writing about food in a somewhat healthy way.
