Hi! I’m Sam, thanks for stopping by. To start off, I am in love with local food and farms. I love farmers’ markets and supporting the community. I’m obsessed with: eggplant, seasonal food, photography, oatmeal, my ice cream maker, the slow food movement and science fiction. I am an omnivore with vegetarian tendencies whose focus is on nutrient dense, home cooked and from scratch recipes using real ingredients. I abhor the idea of cutting out specific food and luckily, have no food allergies! I am a pre-dietetics major with goals of becoming a registered dietitian and eventually, attending culinary school. While I am interested in the science aspect of nutrition, I am mainly driven and moved by the way that food makes me feel. To quote a local magazine, Edible Hudson Valley: “We might forget, as we indulge in a mocha frappuccino or inhale a burger in the car, that food is energy and it fills more than our stomachs. It feeds our brains, our hearts and our spirits.”
Me minus food: I am perpetually nerdy and clumsy. I knock things over and snort while laughing. Video games, comic books and science fiction are a few of the things that make me a self-proclaimed & extreme nerd. I like wine, those girly drinks served with umbrellas and I recently fell in love with margaritas! I constantly change my mind and have a really hard time making decisions, especially important ones. Netflix and Hulu run my life outside of school and the kitchen. I’m an artist at heart and have always been crafty and creative. I love photography, sewing and other crafts.
About Sweet Remedy
Once upon a time I was a vendor at a farmers’ market. I made cupcakes, cookies and brownies and had dreams of expanding to other treats such as: granola, marshmallows and jams. I started Sweet Remedy out of pure boredom. I wanted something to occupy my mind after losing my job so I started to bake cupcakes. I delivered these cupcakes to friends and family and was shocked to receive such an overwhelming demand for them. I decided to start selling them at a local farmers’ market which marks the birth of SR. I did this for two amazing summers and then decided to go back to school which is currently monopolizing a lot of my time. I loved being a farmers’ market vendor, I truly did. The sense of community and the feeling of being a part of something so amazing is life-changing. Not to mention the food and constant inspiration surrounding you.
I had a really good run at the market; I grew a modest customer base, learned valuable life lessons and made many great friends. I am eternally grateful I started this adventure with food. It helped me grow into who I am today and has helped me realize my passions in life: making food, eating food and writing about food in a somewhat healthy way.
